Thinking of renovating your kitchen but don’t have the budget? If you’re not ready for a full remodel, you can still give your kitchen a fresh, new feel without breaking the bank. With a bit of creativity and some serious elbow grease, you can add a splash of new into your older, established kitchen today. Keep reading for 10 great ideas on how you can redecorate your kitchen without spending a fortune.

1. Clear the clutter. Get rid of your old, worn-out tea towels and out-of-date cookware. A good rule is if you haven’t used that fondue pot since 1986, you can probably toss it out.

2. Pick a theme for the kitchen. Choose a theme like Mexican, Country style, 1950s or Italian and run with it. Pick up a few choice accessories, such as new oven mitts or pot lids and build from there.

3. Paint with a bright, new color. Paint is a wonderfully inexpensive way to make a grand impact on the look of a room.

4. Update your backsplash. A backsplash is small enough that the cost of tiles won’t set you back too far, but positioned well enough that the change can have a major visual impact.

5. Use food to add some style. For example, if you’ve chosen an Italian theme, try building on it by using decorative bottles of olive oil or interesting pasta canisters to reinforce your theme.

6. Display your ceramics. Open your cupboards and get out that beautiful glassware and all those lovely dishes - it’s time to put them on display. You can create an interesting wall design with antique plates or beloved serving platters, or you can hang your glassware as way of both displaying and storing it.

7. Go green. Add fresh plants to your window sills and ledges to warm up the space and bring life into your kitchen. A window sill herb garden is both decorative and functional.

8. Update your cabinetry hardware. If you can’t afford new cabinetry, try updating yours with new pulls and knobs. You can instantly update an entire kitchen simply by replacing those dated, glass pulls with something a little more contemporary.

9. Repaper the shelves and drawers in a fun, new color.

10. Update your faucets. A new faucet typically costs less than a hundred dollars and is a great way to not only bring a new style to your kitchen, but also some added functionality. Opt for faucet models with removable water filters or a dish washing attachment.

How much do kitchen accessories contribute in the making of a great cook? This is a good question, and if you listen to the manufacturers of all the cool kitchen stuff, then you will be left in no doubt as to the answer. In fact, most modern housewives would be totally lost without their extensive array of gadgets and kitchen accessories that are purported to produce the perfect culinary masterpiece. If you spend time watching any of the many cooking shows now on television, then you are left feeling quite inadequate if you don’t have something at least similar in your kitchen to your show hosts.

We don’t have to go back very far in time when the only kitchen accessories were wooden spoons, primitive whisks, china mixing bowls, wood stoves and a lot of the proverbial elbow grease. It is still hard for me to imagine how they managed to beat the egg whites and sugar so stiffly that they could make a perfect meringue, or the lightest of sponges. Nowadays the thought of doing this any other way except with the help of an electric mixer is inconceivable. Being able to bake these mouth watering goodies perfectly in anything other than a perfect temperature controlled, fan forced environment is another very hard fact to grasp. But they did, and they seemed to know how hot their oven was. It has always puzzled me how they survived with no temperature gauges, and in our modern ovens, if you are out 10 degrees then you could well have a disaster on your hands.

How about making bread in these modern times of ours. Our grandmothers would knead the bread by hand several times until they achieved the perfect elasticity. This may well have taken them 10 or 20 minutes each time. Most of us would tire after several minutes of this hard work, but fortunately the dough hook is standard equipment among all good brands of electric mixing equipment. Whether they every get used though, is another question, as it is only the most faithful to the art that still bakes their own bread the old fashioned way. In this case, the oven has been replaced by stand alone bread makers, and baking bread is as simple now as adding water to a packet mix. Some how I don’t think many of our grandmothers would approve.

Many women have become kitchen accessories junkies. Their cupboards are bursting with everything new that comes on to the market. Pie makers, blenders, juicers get pushed to the back as new items gradually fall from grace and make their way down from the bench top. The seriously hooked long ago traded their kitchen benches in for granite. After all, no decent kitchen would be seen without one. This has led to a revolution of total kitchen makeovers. www.kitchen-aid.org website can help you with some cool ideas, here. New range hoods, kitchen islands as well as cabinets have been turning ordinary kitchens into a beautiful space that any woman would admire.

The kitchen has long been described as the heart of the home, and for any woman who spends large amounts of time there the type of kitchen accessories that she works with is important. Often though, the most homely of kitchens produce the most love and the best tasting food. One doesn’t need to have the latest new fangled milk frother or stainless steel trash can that automatically opens when it senses you coming. After all, no amount of fantastic time saving and beautiful looking kitchen accessories mean a thing, if the kitchen is not used for anything but serving coffee and takeway meals.

The kitchen has become an increasingly important area in our homes. In fact, this one little room has a lot going on. It typically provides a gathering place where family and friends share meals and company, as well as a place to prepare those dishes. Designers are constantly striving to provide more efficient ways to use this area as well as tempting us with new styles and accessories such as granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances. Innovations are being made not only with the accessories, but in the kitchen layouts as well. Remember the old triangle design, where a geometric connection was made between the refrigerator, the stove and the sink? Apparently now we need multiple triangles to connect all the various tasks.

Here is an example of how a simple kitchen island can be transformed into a multi-tasking machine. On one side, add a refrigerated drawer facing the cook top for quick meal preparation. Another side faces two dishwashers and counter area for clean-up. Another area has a large preparation area right across from the main refrigerator and next to a second smaller sink. An alternative to the refrigerated drawer is a small under-the-counter fridge to hold juices, other beverages, and quick snacks. It’s also located across from the cappuccino maker built into the cabinetry.

Also included are optional theme zones that reflect the individual needs of the home owner. Ideas may include a baking preparation area with a double oven and extra counter space. Wine aficionados will appreciate a built in wine center with a wine refrigerator, wine rack and storage for glassware. Techies will love the electronics zone where they can charge their cell phones, digital cameras and store their laptop.

The idea of a butler’s pantry is making a comeback in modern kitchens. It requires a designated area where you can drop off dishes between courses, do some quick cooking with a single burner or microwave, store dishes and glassware, have a water source for quick clean-ups, and maybe even a dishwasher.

Islands often have raised eating areas eliminating the need for a kitchen table, now you can utilize that extra floor space by adding a small couch or an over sized chair for relaxing after dinner. Occasionally these areas are being turned into additional entertainment areas to occupy guests while their host is preparing dinner, and may include a stereo or TV as well.

There are many types of pottery ware available, but how do we know that which type is suitable to be used for specific purpose. By knowing their characteristics and nature will help you to decide which type that you will use effectively.

Ceramics

Generally, ceramics is the pottery ware which are coated on the surface. The example of ceramic ware that we familiar with are plates, bowl use on the dining table, sanitary ware, roofing/wall tiles, mosaic, pitchers, vase etc. The raw materials that use for making ceramics are some type of soil, rocks, stones etc. The ceramics production process, start from preparing raw material, then mixing all of component, then build up the design. There are several types of build up process, which are build up by hand, build up by using spinning round board, build up by Jigger machine, build up by using mold or build up by squeezing machine. The next step after build up the pottery shapes is drying and biscuitfiring, then coating or glostfiring. The last process of making ceramics is decoration and painting. Decoration and painting includes, drawing directly onto the surface or use sticker paper. This process, however, can be done before or after coating process.

Earthenware

The common characteristics of earthenware is it has brown or red colour, because the raw material that used to produce earthenware has mixture of iron substance. This type of raw materials is generally used for sculpture and images due to its attribute that not easily retract and riddled, so this materials will not easily crack or broken. The earthenware soil that has white colour in nature is rare, so we normally add extra substance to whiten the soil, and also increase the iron substance, which has red or brown colour. Generally the substance has the heat resistance at 1,050 degree Celsius. The charming of earthenware is its colour. Some potters don’t like to make pottery arts on the pottery ware that has white colour such as Porcelain, as a result, they tend to use earthenware to make pottery ware instead. Apart from its advantage about having attractive colour, using earthenware also save their time and cost to biscuitfiring as well. Earthenware also known as the common type of ceramics, however, the formulations and component of earthenware is vary, depending on region that they come from.

Porcelain

Porcelain is a kind of ceramics that requires heat in highest temperature among other kind of ceramics to produce. Generally, porcelain requires temperatures between about 1200 and 1400 degrees Celsius. We can differentiate porcelain from other pottery by toughness, strength and smoothness of the surface as well as consistency of colour of the pottery’s texture. Some type of pottery that made from porcelain looks very much alike glass, this type of porcelain pottery use heat from cone 8 to cone 12. According to its characteristics described above, porcelain is one of the pottery ware that popular for produce commercial products. The common product of porcelain that we are familiar with are kitchen ware (due to its high resistance to heat and electricity), medical equipments such as false teeth, caps etc.

To prepare campsite meals and feed yourself or family during your camping trip, at least some camping cook ware will be needed. Camping cook ware that is small in size and portable will make your camp cooking and packing for your trip less complicated. Backpackers who are camping will especially appreciate compact, portable camping cook ware. Camping cook ware can range from a simple single pot to a number of skillets and pots in different sizes that nest into each other for easy storage and transportation.

A main choice you will have when shopping for camping cook ware is the type of cook ware material. Aluminum, cast iron, titanium, and stainless steel are all available and each has their own merits. Aluminum, titanium and stainless steel cook ware sets will be lighter and easier to tote around. Aluminum camping cook ware sets may come in non-stick varieties, which will be slightly more expensive. Metal cook ware sets will all be prone to rusting, so be careful that your cooking pans are dry before you store them. Cast iron cook ware sets are especially durable, and can last you a lifetime with proper care. Because they are so sturdy, cast iron cook ware sets will be much heavier and harder to transport than cook ware sets made out of other materials.

Besides pots and pans, utensils and cutlery are other essential pieces of camping cook ware. Depending on what type of campfire foods you want to prepare, you may be able to get away with just a simple knife and spoon, or you may need a more elaborate utensil set including a spatula, measuring cups, tongs and forks. Folding utensil sets are available that allow for easy storage. If you are worried about storage space, a simple and cost effective solution is to purchase an all-purpose wooden spoon and saw off most of its handle, being careful of splinters from the sawed off end. Also, look for plastic cutlery sets including forks, spoons, and knives, for another cost saving way to find camping cook ware.

To minimize the need for lots of camping cook ware, there are a few camp cooking strategies you can follow. For example, much cooking preparation can be done ahead of time in your own kitchen. Vegetables can be chopped up and sauces can be prepared and stored in small containers or plastic bags. This allows you to leave behind the knives, cutting boards, stirring spoons, and other equipment that will take up room and need to be cleaned. Also, sticking to simple camp cooking recipes will allow you to reduce the number of camping cook ware pieces needed for your meal preparation. Aluminum foil cooking is a simple and easy method that creates hot, delicious dishes and the only cook ware needed is a roll of foil.

The importance of kitchen cabinets lies in their utility in storing away your cutlery, fruits, vegetables, and the other accessories that make your cooking a unique experience. In fact, if you remodel your kitchen, you’ll find that the lion’s share of your budget will go in buying kitchen cabinets. Considering their expenses and their utility, you need to do a lot of research to get maximum returns for your investment. Added to this is the fact that these cabinets are going to be an integral part of your kitchen décor for years to come. Look around and you’ll find that kitchen cabinets can usually be classified in two broad categories, contemporary cabinets and traditional cabinets.

Opt for traditional designs if you want an old world charm feel about your kitchen. Their color and finish symbolize an English country flavor. You can choose from the standard colors that include the wine-dark cherry, the warm-brown sturdy oak, and honeyed pine. Most of these cabinets have ornate decorations such as raised panels, moldings, and trims usually applied in layers to give your kitchen a regal formal setting.

Unlike traditional cabinets, the main characteristic of contemporary cabinets is their stark, no-frills appearance. Their no-nonsense look is in tune with the times where leisure takes the back seat and everything is designed to make working simple.

The focus is on an uncluttered functioning that works well with glass shelves and stainless-steel sinks. While choosing between the two, keep in mind whether your home is a modern apartment or a century old house.

Once you have decided between the contemporary and traditional cabinets, it is very important that you check for the quality and craftsmanship of these pieces. As said, cabinets are usually long-time investments, and so you need to do a thorough check. Ensure that the wood is not damaged or cracked. Also, keep in mind that solid wood doors are longer lasting than veneers.

The best way to check out the drawers is to apply some pressure on the drawer bottoms to see if they bend. They will not if they are made of solid wood.

Also, remember to check out the door hinges, slides and runners. The drawers should have side-mounted slides as they allow you to pull the door all the way out.
